Visits from Family

Jamie and Haylee came up for Poppa's funeral. It was so good to see them but it was too bad on such a sad occasion. We had lots of fun with Haylee. Josh and I watched her Sat. night (nov. 29th). We took her to his parents house to make gingerbread houses and she had so much fun playing with all the girls! She slept over and we went to Tooele the next day to see all my cousins and everyone that flew in for the funeral.
It was so good to all be together. I hadn't seen some of my cousins in so long. My uncle Bruce and Aunt Jackie came out from Ohio, with their two kids, Justin and Dena and it was so good to see them. And Aunt Mary Jane from California with her daughters Kimi and Kami. It has been way too long since we all have gotten together and its sad that its funerals that bring us together. However we had a great time reminissing about GG and Poppa and all the fun partys and trips we used to have. I love that our family is so close. Bruce and Mary Jane are my Mom's aunt and uncle, and so their kids are my Mom's cousins but we all are close and have grown up together. I know some families who don't even know their first cousins very well. I am so blessed to be part of such a great family that is so close and I hope my kids will be just as close with their cousins.
The funeral was beautiful. My Poppa was a Fireman and served 71 years. They did what you a "last call", it was amazing! The neatest thing I have ever seen or heard.
After the funeral the Tooele city Fireman salute the entire family as we walked out of the church along with the casket. The brigade to the cememtary had to be a couple miles long! My Mom, sister, cousins and I rode in the lead fire truck up to the cemetary. After the dedication of the grave they read the firemans Prayer and the Last Call Poem. Which is beautiful. The rang the bell 14 times for 71 years of service, which was so touching and just made you cry then one of the Fireman radioed something to over the radio and the fire truck sirens went off and that just made you cry even harder and then over the radio you heard... "The Passed Toby Shields this is your last call". They said it so many times and I don't think there was a dry eye to be seen. It really made you proud to be the Great Grandchild of such an amazing man and not only that but to have such a close relationship with him. He loved his family and we all knew it. Poppa will be missed but we know that he is with his beautiful wife, my GG and his baby son who passed right after he was born.
Here are some pictures of the family.
